James Gunn has celebrated a significant milestone in his career with the tenth anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy. Reflecting on the impact of the film on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Gunn shared his excitement on social media, noting, “Yesterday Superman wrapped. And today is the ten-year anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy being released in theaters in Europe. What an astounding ten years it’s been.”
The post featured a nostalgic image of Gunn with Chris Pratt, who portrayed Peter Quill, and Dave Bautista, who played Drax the Destroyer. Released in 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy introduced audiences to a diverse team of cosmic heroes, including Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. The film was quickly embraced for its blend of humor, heart, and vibrant space adventures, complemented by its iconic soundtrack of ’70s and ’80s hits.
The success of the original film led to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, as well as continued appearances in other Marvel films and a highly anticipated third installment. The series remains a fan favorite, renowned for its engaging character dynamics and unique storytelling.
In addition to celebrating Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn is concluding work on another major project: the rebooted superhero film Superman. Formerly known as Superman: Legacy, the film stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The new Superman film, slated for release on July 11, 2025, will delve into Superman’s struggle with his dual identity and alien origins, offering a modern take on the legendary character. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
