Marvel Studios is gearing up for the release of “Captain America: Brave New World,” the highly anticipated fourth installment in the Captain America film series and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Julius Onah and written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton, the film continues the story of Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, who took on the mantle of Captain America in the aftermath of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” miniseries.
Development and Production
The idea for a new Captain America film emerged following the success of Mackie’s portrayal in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” where he assumed the role from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. Mackie officially signed on in August 2022, with Julius Onah joining as director shortly after. Originally titled “Captain America: New World Order,” the film’s subtitle was changed to “Brave New World” during production to better reflect its themes and avoid potential controversies.
Filming commenced in March 2023 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, under the working title “Rochelle Rochelle,” with additional shoots in Washington, D.C. The production aimed for a grounded and tactile approach to action, offering Wilson new challenges and perspectives not seen in previous MCU appearances.
Cast and Characters
The film features a diverse cast, including Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler (reprising her role as Betty Ross from “The Incredible Hulk”), Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford. Notably, Seth Rollins also joins the ensemble, adding to the film’s intrigue and star power.
Release Date and Expectations
“Captain America: Brave New World” is scheduled for release in the United States on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU. With its emphasis on character development and expanding the MCU narrative, the film promises to be a significant addition to Marvel’s cinematic universe.
Fans eagerly anticipate seeing Anthony Mackie’s Captain America embark on new adventures and face fresh challenges in a storyline that explores timely themes and continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
