Yorkshire’s nightmare season continued with a 28-run defeat by Durham in the T20 Blast at headingley

The damage was done by Alex Lees, who left Yorkshire in 2018 and thrashed a career-best 90 off 53 balls to lift the visitors to 217 for three after Graham Clark  a centurion against Northamptonshire on Friday  had fallen first ball of the innings.

The defeat, their third out of three in T20 cricket this season, means Yorkshire currently bottom of division two of the county championship  are still winless in all cricket.  Amid continued speculation about potential sugar daddies to save them from financial oblivion following the fallout of the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal, the search for on-field consolation goes on.

There were also runs for Durham wicketkeeper Ollie Robinson, who hit an unbeaten 64 off 30 balls, another career-best, before Ben Raine took three for 27 in Yorkshire’s reply of 189 for seven.

Alsop was still there at the end with an unbeaten 51 as Sussex got home with a ball to spare to open their account in the South Group. Earlier, Sussex captain Ravi Bopara took three for 18 to keep Surrey’s batsmen quiet.

Meanwhile, Surrey suffered their first defeat in all cricket, losing by five wickets against Sussex at The Oval. Chasing a modest 149, Sussex slipped to 56 for four, before Tom Alsop and wicketkeeper Michael Burgess, with a punishing 48 off 28, got them back on track.

In the day’s other game, Somerset made it three wins out of three after a four-wicket victory over Glamorgan at Taunton. Set 154, they were boosted by opener Tom Banton’s 28-ball 54, and raced home with 31 balls to spare. Somerset now top the South Group, with the only 100 per cent record in the division.
